SHAH ALAM, Aug 25 — The state contingent’s success in surpassing the 100-gold-medal mark at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) is a remarkable achievement that sets a new benchmark for other states to challenge at future editions.
Selangor emerged as the overall champion with 101 gold, 73 silver, and 71 bronze medals, marking the state’s best performance in the history of its participation in the Games.
Lembah Jaya state assemblyman Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Al-Hadad said the achievement reveals that Selangor’s athletes had set a new standard for other contingents to surpass.
“Congratulations to all the athletes. This is a level that others will want to ‘unlock’ and take to an even higher level. Good luck to everyone, as well as to the sports industry in this country.
“Thankfully, we surpassed our target, and as a Selangorian who was born and raised here, I am very proud of this success,” he said.
Syed Ahmad was speaking to Media Selangor during the official closing ceremony of SUKMA 2026, where he also praised the Selangor athletes for their hard work and determination in delivering a historic performance for the state.
Selangor went into the games targeting 80 gold medals but significantly exceeded that mark, with the contingent’s strong and consistent performances throughout the competition pushing its final tally to 101 golds.
Swimming was a major contributor, winning 20 of the 41 gold medals contested in the sport and helping Selangor secure the overall title.
The record haul also capped Selangor’s successful campaign as host and raised the bar for other contingents ahead of the next edition of SUKMA.
