PKPS steps up monitoring of agropreneurs amid hot weather

SERDANG, Sept 1 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) is continuously monitoring developments and the needs of agropreneurs in the state amid the current hot weather spell.

PKPS chief executive officer Datuk Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi said continuous monitoring is being carried out to ensure assistance could be provided should farmers face issues beyond their control.

“For example, this includes agropreneurs in Kuala Langat who were affected by a recent fire. We immediately provided assistance to them,” he said.

He spoke to reporters after witnessing the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PKPS and the National Farmers' Organisation (NAFAS) in conjunction with the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) here today.

Khairil said assistance provided included agricultural inputs as well as advice on measures agropreneurs should take when dealing with hot weather conditions.

Meanwhile, commenting on Budget 2027, he hoped the agriculture and agrifood sectors would be given priority, as they form the foundation of the country’s food needs.

“You can go to war and talk about other industries, but the most fundamental industry is agriculture, and we need to focus on the food sector before looking at other issues and sectors.

“I hope the Menteri Besar and our prime minister can give greater attention to the agriculture and agrifood sectors,” he said.
