GOMBAK, Aug 23 — Merdeka celebrations must remind people of previous generations’ sacrifices and help them realise their shared responsibility in national caretaking, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He added that the appreciation of independence must come with nation-building efforts based on faith and morality.
“When we celebrate Independence Day, we must of course remind ourselves of where we are, what the sacrifices of our forefathers were, and what our fate is in the future,” he said when launching the Maulidur Rasul and Merdeka lead-up events at Al-Khairiyah Mosque in Taman Sri Gombak here yesterday.
Amirudin explained that the people must ensure Merdeka celebrations aren’t just annual events, but translate into a responsibility to shape a better life.
“May this Independence (Day) celebration remind us there there is a responsibility and duty to take care of our nation together, positioning our nation with the right faith and morality,” he added.
