SHAH ALAM, June 28 — Sailing athletes from several states have begun gathering in Kuala Langat for early training sessions and to acclimatise to wind conditions and the waters of the Straits of Malacca ahead of the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026.
Sailing “host father” Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said preparations for the competition venue are progressing smoothly.
“The facilities provided by the organisers, the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL), are in good condition and all preparations are going smoothly.
“I also noticed that several state contingents have already started staying in Kuala Langat to train and adjust to sea conditions in the Straits of Malacca ahead of the competition,” he told Media Selangor.
He believes the Selangor contingent can take advantage of competing on home ground, as the state athletes are more familiar with the competition venue.
Borhan said this advantage could help Selangor achieve its target of winning as many gold medals as possible, despite facing strong competition from other states, including Terengganu.
He also expressed hope that the SUKMA hosting will bring economic benefits to the local community as participants, families and supporters from other states begin to congregate in Kuala Langat.
He said residents, particularly in Kampung Batu Laut, are encouraged to seize the opportunity to generate income by selling small and medium enterprise (SME) products, as well as to provide good hospitality to visitors.
“So far, I have been informed that all homestays in nearby areas are already fully booked.
“Therefore, make full use of this SUKMA hosting so that its excitement is not only felt by the athletes, but also turns visitors into tourists who can enjoy the attractions in Kuala Langat."
