PUTRAJAYA, Aug 27 — Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional (BN) are expected to decide on their cooperation for the Melaka election before Malaysia Day on September 16, Parti Keadilan Rakyat election director Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said.
Amirudin, who is also Selangor menteri besar, said discussions are at the early stage, with any decision requiring approval from both Harapan and Keadilan.
“I think before Malaysia Day, we may have a clearer picture of how we will move forward in facing the Melaka election,” he told reporters here today.
Amirudin said another round of discussions are expected this week to assess the progress of negotiations.
“We are still at the preliminary exploratory stage and cannot make a decision yet. But I will also need to report back to (Harapan) and (Keadilan) before any agreement can be decided,” he said.
Amirudin said Harapan and BN would draw on their experience of both cooperating and competing against each other in previous state elections to determine the best approach for Melaka.
“We have worked with BN as a coalition in state elections, competed against each other in Johor and Negeri Sembilan, and worked closely together in Sabah.
“We will draw on all these experiences to find an outcome that benefits everyone,” Amirudin added.
Yesterday, Harapan communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil reportedly said the coalition has its own schedule for discussions on preparations for the Melaka election.
