HULU SELANGOR, Aug 16 — The Selangor government is working with District and Land Offices to expedite the gazettement of 74 Orang Asli villages across seven districts in Selangor, said state executive councillor for Orang Asli and minority affairs Papparaidu Veraman.
He added that most villages are undergoing gazettement, although several issues have slowed progress, including matters involving Malay reserve and private land.
“We have more than 50 per cent of villages listed as Orang Asli villages undergoing gazettement. I will continue this effort across the seven districts in Selangor.
“For villages that have yet to be gazetted, especially in Hulu Selangor, district officers have provided significant assistance by offering ideas and suggestions to resolve issues involving private and Malay reserve land.
“Our joint effort with district officers is to help resolve these matters, but there are indeed issues on the ground, including those involving the Forestry Department,” he said when officiating the 2026 Selangor Resilient Women Tour (Hulu Selangor Zone) today.
Earlier, Papparaidu said the gazettement of the 74 Orang Asli villages considers various factors including the settlements’ history and relocation of their populations.
He said the state government is committed to resolving Orang Asli land gazettement issues to safeguard the rights and interests of the community.
He also urged the Orang Asli community not to sell or mortgage their land, as it is an important asset for future generations.
“Land is a heritage. If it is sold or auctioned, we will lose ownership rights. Protect this asset for future generations,” Papparaidu stressed.
