HULU SELANGOR, Aug 10 — The Selangor Orang Asli Cultural Festival, held in conjunction with the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, will continue in Kuala Langat next August on a larger scale.
State executive councillor for Orang Asli affairs Papparaidu Veraman said the festival was planned as an annual event that would rotate among Selangor's nine districts to promote the culture and heritage of the Orang Asli community.
"Next year, we will continue this programme in Kuala Langat. I want it to be held on a larger scale and involve greater participation.
"Last year, we held it in Sepang. This year, it is Kuala Kubu Bharu's turn in Hulu Selangor. I have planned for this festival to be held every year. Next year, I promise that the programme will be held on the same or an even larger scale," he said.
He was speaking at the launch of the Selangor Orang Asli Cultural Festival 2026 at Taman Tasik Milenium in Kuala Kubu Bharu here yesterday.
Papparaidu said the festival was not solely for the Orang Asli community, but also served as a platform to celebrate cultural diversity and strengthen ties between communities.
He said the festival featured a range of activities, including a fun run, exhibitions by government agencies, health screenings and cultural performances that brought together Orang Asli communities from various districts across Selangor.
The event also showcased their distinctive cultures, customs and heritage to the wider public.
"Every year, we will improve the organisation of this festival so that it has a greater impact on the Orang Asli community and the people of Selangor as a whole.
"The state government will continue to use the festival as a platform to promote Orang Asli culture while delivering various development and welfare initiatives to the community," he said.
