‘Career rehab helps women return to work, contribute to state economy’

SHAH ALAM, April 9 — The state government is ramping up efforts to drive Selangor’s economy through a career rehabilitation programme specifically for women, said state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.

She added that the initiative aims to raise the female labour participation rate (FLPR) and strengthen women’s entrepreneurship.

She said the effort is being undertaken in cooperation with Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp) and the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO).

According to her, the Women’s Career Comeback Programme (WCCP) was launched to match women with jobs and support those wishing to return to work.

“Respone to this programme has been very encouraging, with 30 to 40 per cent of career carnival participants who attended live interviews succeeding in gaining jobs via AI- and resume-based matching efforts.

“This effort is in line with the state government’s aim to achieve an FLPR of 75 per cent by 2030. Last year, the FLPR in Selangor increased to 70.3 per cent from 69.8 per cent the previous year,” she said when met at her office at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building on March 17.

Anfaal added that the state government provides digital marketing assistance for women involved in small and medium enterprises, to develop their entrepreneurship and help them access wider markets.

The WCCP by TalentCorp, an agency under the Human Resources Ministry (MOHR), is a government initiative to help women return to work after a hiatus.

The programme focuses on sharpening participants’ skills and support to return to the corporate sector, with women aged 25 to 55 eligible to join provided they have been out of work for at least six months and have three years of professional experience.
