SHAH ALAM, Aug 15 — Siblings Goh Yu Jie and Goh Yu Heng staged a spirited comeback from a set down to defeat Penang A and win the women’s beach volleyball gold medal for Selangor at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 today.
Playing in front of the home crowd at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Beach Volleyball Court, the Selangor pair recovered from a 16-21 first-set defeat to win the next two sets 21-17, 15-11.
Penang A, featuring national team players, dominated the opening set, but Yu Jie and Yu Heng regained their rhythm to control the next two sets and secure the title.
The victory not only delivered gold for Selangor but was also particularly meaningful for Yu Jie, who had previously settled for silver at the Sarawak SUKMA.
The achievement was even sweeter as she won it alongside her younger sister, Yu Heng, who was making her SUKMA debut.
“It was an incredible victory. We knew we had lost the first set, but we did not give up. Thank you to our coach and my sister for working hard to achieve this victory,” she told Media Selangor.
For Yu Heng, 16, the achievement was almost unbelievable as she won gold in her first appearance at the Games.
“I am very excited to win the gold medal with my sister, and I still cannot believe I managed to achieve this in my first SUKMA appearance,” she said.
Meanwhile, in the men’s competition, Perak A won the gold medal, while Terengganu A took silver and Terengganu B won bronze.
Selangor B were forced to settle without a medal after withdrawing in the third set of the bronze medal match while trailing 1-4 due to an injury.
The Selangor B pair had earlier won the first set 30-28 before being unable to continue in the following set.
