KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Three locations in Peninsular Malaysia recorded unhealthy air quality as of 10 am today, with Cheras posting the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in the peninsula at 153.
Johan Setia recorded an API of 150, while Shah Alam registered 103, according to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
Nationwide, 10 locations recorded unhealthy air quality, with most concentrated in Sarawak.
Serian registered the country’s highest API reading at 183, followed by Kuching and Samarahan at 171 each, Sri Aman (163), Sarikei (158), Mukah (152) and Bintulu (147).
Meanwhile, 56 locations recorded moderate API levels of between 51 and 100, while only two areas registered good air quality, with readings below 50.
Under the API scale, readings of between zero and 50 are classified as good, 51 to 100 as moderate, 101 to 200 as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, and above 300 as hazardous.
API readings are released hourly based on data from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
