SUKMA 2026: Selangor thrashes Penang in water polo

SHAH ALAM, Aug 12 — Selangor opened their men’s water polo campaign for the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in style, defeating Penang 23-13 in their Group B opening match at Akuatik Selangor today.

The hosts put on an energetic display, taking control of the game from the first quarter before maintaining their excellent momentum until the final whistle to secure their first victory of the tournament.

Team captain Brandon Wong emerged as Selangor’s hero, scoring 11 goals to finish as the match’s top scorer.

He said the victory gave the team a confidence boost ahead of the remaining matches, while he is also delighted to have presented the home supporters with a win.

“We feel that we have done our best today and we are playing in our home state, so of course we want to put on our best performance for all the supporters who came.

“We hope everyone is happy with our performance,” Wong said in an interview with Media Selangor.

He added that the opening victory will hopefully serve as a catalyst for Selangor to maintain momentum in the next match.

“This first victory has certainly lifted our spirits, and we hope to carry this momentum into the next match,” Wong said.
