SUKMA 2026: Selangor women’s water polo team win silver after thrilling final

SHAH ALAM, Aug 17 — The state women’s water polo team won the silver medal after losing 10-12 to Sarawak in the final of the 22nd 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) at Akuatik Selangor today.

The players, coached by Sarah Ann Thorp, faced a tough challenge as Sarawak took an early 4-2 lead in the first quarter.

They maintained the advantage in the second quarter, leading Selangor 6-3.

Entering the third quarter, Sarawak extended their lead to 9-6, leaving Selangor to chase their opponents.

However, the hosts refused to give up and fought hard until the end of the match to close the gap.

Selangor added to their tally in the final quarter, but Sarawak eventually secured victory with a 12-10 scoreline.

Although they could not overturn the deficit, the state team stayed focused and fought until the final whistle to secure the silver medal.

The achievement saw Sarah's players finish as runners-up in the women’s water polo competition.

The success also contributed another silver medal to the Selangor contingent at SUKMA 2026, as the women’s water polo event officially concluded today, with Selangor now having won 11 gold, 11 silver, and eight bronze medals.
