No by-election for Subang seat after Wong Chen exit

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — There won’t be a by-election for the Subang parliamentary seat after incumbent Wong Chen’s resignation, said the Election Commission (EC).

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said this is based on Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution, as Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul informed the EC there is no need to fill the vacancy.

“No by-election for the P.104 Subang parliamentary constituency will be held,” he said in a statement last night.

He added that the EC received notification from Johari via a letter dated yesterday about the casual vacancy of the Subang seat under Article 51 of the Federal Constitution.

Earlier, Johari confirmed at a Dewan Rakyat special meeting that he had received Wong’s resignation notice.
