SHAH ALAM, Aug 10 — The state government has allocated RM3.5 million to fund high-impact research through the Selangor Development Research and Innovation Grant (SELidik) 2026.
It aims to support the state's development agenda based on the six strategic themes of the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), with RM2.5 million channelled to Selangor Islamic University and Universiti Selangor, while a further RM1 million is open to local universities in Selangor.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said SELidik was introduced for the first time this year to strengthen research that could support policymaking and the implementation of state development programmes.
"This is the first time Selangor has introduced a research grant, and this year the allocation is RM3.5 million.
"Of this amount, RM2.5 million is provided for the two universities under the state government, namely UIS and UNISEL. On average, each university will receive RM1.25 million in research grants.
"The remaining RM1 million will be open to local universities throughout Selangor. We are giving priority to local universities first and, if there is any surplus allocation, we may consider the participation of international universities," he told the media during the launch of SELidik 2026 at the State Secretariat Building today.
Amirudin added that every research project receiving the grant must meet a key requirement by linking it to the six missions outlined in RS-2.
"Earlier, many studies were submitted across various fields such as agriculture, education, innovation development, and various other areas.
"So, they will be directly linked to the policies to be formulated, followed by the programmes to be implemented," he said.
When tabling RS-2 on Friday (August 7), Amirudin said the plan would serve as a key action plan to realise Selangor's aspiration of becoming an ASEAN Model State by 2030.
The policy document for the 2026-2030 period will serve as the state's official development direction and a reference for all relevant bodies.
He noted that RS-2 would also serve as a reference for state agencies, including departments, local authorities, state-owned companies, and stakeholders in implementing the development agenda.
