SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 — The state government will build on the Malaysian Games’ (SUKMA) momentum with the one council, one sport approach to encourage healthy lifestyles among Selangoreans, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the initiative will formalise community sports development at the local authority level and strengthen the grassroots ecosystem in an integrated manner.
“The importance of sports will be improved by continuing the momentum from SUKMA by emphasising sports in every locality” across all backgrounds and age groups, he added.
Amirudin said this when tabling the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), themed “Leading Growth, Driving Prosperity, Leading ASEAN”, at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.
SUKMA Selangor 2026 will be held from August 15 to 24 with 469 events in 37 sports, while Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14 with 316 events in 10 sports. The opening ceremony will be held at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam.
