SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 — Selangor’s crime rate has declined all year thanks to cooperation between the community, government agencies, private quarters and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), said Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar.
He said information sharing and close cooperation with the community is a major reason that crime prevention efforts have been more effective.
“For Kajang district, the crime rate has continued to decline, while the charge rate at the Kajang district police headquarters is encouraging, thanks to consistent enforcement (by police) with the support of local communities,” he said at a townhall for Selangor police at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in Bangi today.
Shazeli added that charge rate indicators are also important in evaluating the effectiveness of police enforcement, especially to ensure each case investigated can be resolved and taken to court.
He also said there are some safety issues that need attention, like illegal racing, drug abuse, and illegal immigration.
The police chief urged the public to continue channelling information, complaints and local issues to help keep the peace.
He reaffirmed Selangor PDRM’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with the community, in line with the “Police and Community are One” theme, for a safer, more peaceful, and prosperous environment.
The townhall was a platform for Selangor PDRM to hear views, complaints and issues related to public safety and peace.
