SHAH ALAM, Aug 4 — The Selangor government is positioning Global Business Services (GBS) as a key driver of high-value jobs and economic growth, with the sector expected to support the expansion of industries such as automation, artificial intelligence, professional services, and business analytics.
State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said Selangor is leveraging Malaysia’s position as the world's third-most competitive GBS destination, after India and China.
The sector generated an estimated RM28.1 billion in revenue in 2025 through 749 active GBS operations, creating approximately 36,000 professional jobs.
"GBS also offers significant potential to create large-scale mid-tier and technical jobs in areas such as data analytics, information technology and business services, particularly for graduates from universities across the Klang Valley.
"Global trends show that multinational corporations often begin by establishing GBS operations to assess the availability of talent and the strength of supporting infrastructure.
"Once confidence has been established, these GBS centres have strong potential to evolve into regional headquarters, particularly in Selangor, which offers a strong ecosystem and a cost-to-value advantage compared with countries like Singapore," he said.
Ng was responding to Batu Tiga state assemblyman Danial Al Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid’s queries about efforts to attract investment through GBS-led industries during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
He added that the expansion of the GBS sector will create more high-impact employment opportunities for graduates in fields such as law, accounting, finance, human resources, and data science.
Invest Selangor Bhd will continue strengthening Selangor’s competitive GBS ecosystem through a strategy aimed at encouraging more multinational companies to establish their regional headquarters in the state.
Ng noted that Selangor continues to target investments from countries such as Singapore, China, Europe, the United States, and Japan, with the state government adopting a location-specific investment strategy based on infrastructure and talent availability.
"Cyberjaya will continue serving as a hub for data centres and technology, while Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, and Shah Alam possess the infrastructure and skilled workforce required to support GBS operations,” he said.
Additionally, the state government plans to transform Hulu Selangor, stretching from Serendah to Lembah Beringin, into an Automotive Valley to attract automotive manufacturing and related industries.
