SHAH ALAM, July 31 — Rapid KL has extended its free travel promotion for the LRT Shah Alam Line (LRT3) by two weeks, allowing commuters to continue enjoying complimentary rides until August 14.
The promotion also covers its feeder bus services and Park N’ Ride facilities at LRT3 stations.
It said the extension will allow more commuters to experience the Shah Alam Line and familiarise themselves with the new public transport system connecting Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Klang.
“During this period, the public can enjoy free rides on the Shah Alam Line, including feeder bus services and Park N’ Ride facilities, which will simultaneously encourage greater use of public transport as the preferred choice for daily travel.
“The extension of the free travel period is hoped to benefit more users, reduce daily commuting costs and enhance public confidence in the efficiency and comfort of the country’s public transport system,” Rapid KL said in a statement today.
It urged the public to take advantage of the free travel period by planning their journeys in advance and adhering to all rules and guidelines to ensure safe and smooth travel.
Thousands of commuters have already benefited from the initiative, enjoying a more convenient, faster, and comfortable travel experience throughout the free travel period.
“Your support is greatly appreciated,” Rapid KL said.
The RM16.63 billion LRT3 project was launched on June 29, connecting Johan Setia in Klang to Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced then that commuters would be able to enjoy free rides for one month until July 31.
On June 30, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd said the Shah Alam Line recorded 62,184 passenger trips on its first day of operations, reflecting an encouraging public response to the new rail service.
Of the total, 58,865 trips were made on the train service itself, while 3,319 journeys involved Rapid KL’s first-and-last-mile network, namely 1,883 feeder bus trips and 1,436 trips via the Rapid On-Demand service.
Prasarana is targeting about 67,000 passengers utilising LRT3 daily in its first year of operations.
