SHAH ALAM, July 30 — The developer of the proposed commercial data centre project in Section 9, Kota Damansara has withdrawn its application for the project, said its state assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim.
He said the matter was confirmed by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
“The information I received was that the developer has sent a letter to MBPJ dated July 29 to withdraw the Planning Permission for the development of the data centre project.
“I am grateful and thankful to all parties who have come together to protest the development of the data centre near the residential area.
“This victory is a success for the residents of Kota Damansara who are united in ensuring the sustainability of the community here,” Izuan told Media Selangor when contacted today.
Earlier today, Izuan said that the consultant of the proposed data centre in Kota Damansara has withdrawn their application over the development of the site.
“The consultant has withdrawn the application for the Data Centre planning in Section 9 Kota Damansara. Thank you to all KD (Kota Damansara) people,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
Earlier in July, the proposed commercial data centre, spotted by local residents on a site notice board, sparked concerns about its potential impact on nearby green spaces, biodiversity, and the surrounding community.
Residents have also criticised the short public objection period, which runs from last Tuesday (July 21) to Monday (July 27).
Both the residents and Izuan have submitted an official objection to MBPJ over the proposed commercial data centre in Kota Damansara.
Previously, he said he would raise the matter at the upcoming Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting.
On Monday, MBPJ emphasised that a proposal to build a three-storey commercial data centre in Kota Damansara is still under assessment and has not received approval.
As of last Tuesday, the local authority had received about 290 formal objections to the proposed development along Jalan Rimba Riang 9/6, involving 18 privately owned land lots adjacent to a government road reserve.
It added that the proposed site is designated for business and services, as well as a transport reserve, under the Petaling Jaya Local Plan 2 (Amendment 3).
The suitability of the development will be assessed based on the 2024 Data Centre Planning Guidelines, which require a 50-metre buffer zone between data centre buildings and residential lots.
