SHAH ALAM, Sept 5 — The Subang Airport Rejuvenation Plan (SARP) under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2) will drive economic growth in Kota Damansara, said assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim.
He added that the redevelopment project would present spillover benefits to residents in Kampung Melayu Subang and Subang Bestari.
The 477.33ha SARP site will focus on enhancing the aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector, he said.
“Among the important SARP components is aerospace ecosystem development, which encompasses MRO industry players, high-value aerospace equipment manufacturers, and related equipment and service providers.
“Subang has long been an MRO hub for the aerospace industry, and this redevelopment would breathe new life into the area and provide more jobs for Kota Damansara residents,” he told Media Selangor.
He said the semiconductor and electrical and electronics sectors must also be prioritised to boost supply chain value and strengthen hi-tech manufacturing, adding that in the next five years, efforts must be ramped up to boost investment, education and utility to support Selangor’s targets in these sectors.
Izuan also said that development based on local strengths is important as it would provide jobs and improve residents’ quality of life, instead of focusing on economic growth alone.
Meanwhile, Kota Kemuning assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan believes the RS-2 would improve flood mitigation and traffic woes in his constituency, and catalyse local growth.
He however said there must be better-planned public transport facilities as Kota Kemuning is strategically located near highway networks.
“Kota Kemuning’s proximity to Klang Valley’s logistical corridors makes it essential to developing the services, light industries, modern business, and value-adding logistics sectors,” he added.
He also said the digitalisation of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) should be prioritised to improve their competitiveness and create more quality jobs for youth.
“Youth must be among the main benefactors of RS-2 through better-paying jobs and skills training so they may fill roles in developing sectors.
“(The benefits) of RS-2 must be directly experienced and enjoyed by the people. The success of a plan must not just be measured by economic growth or new developments, but also by how much the people’s lives are bettered by these developments,” Preakas said.
