SHAH ALAM, July 23 — Kota Damansara assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim has submitted an official objection to Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) over the proposed commercial data centre in Kota Damansara and will raise the matter at the upcoming Selangor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.
Izuan said he was aware of the concerns and protests raised by residents over the proposed development.
“My office has submitted an official objection to MBPJ regarding the proposed data centre.
“We are also working closely with residents and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to gather case studies and relevant information on the issue,” he told Media Selangor.
He added that discussions had been held with the relevant authorities and that MBPJ was expected to provide feedback in the near future.
The proposed commercial data centre has sparked concerns among residents, who fear its potential impact on nearby green spaces, biodiversity and the surrounding community.
Residents have also criticised the short public objection period, which runs from July 21 to 27.
Commenting on the issue, Izuan said the timeframe was too brief and insufficient to allow meaningful public participation.
“The time allocated for the public to submit objections was too short and insufficient,” he said.
The assemblyman stressed that he would continue monitoring developments closely.
“I will continue to follow this process closely and will raise the issue during the upcoming DUN sitting.
“Data centres should be proposed in industrial areas, not residential areas,” he said.
On July 17, Sungai Buloh MP Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan said the proposed data centre would be brought before the Cabinet following concerns raised by residents and to discuss the need for more comprehensive guidelines and mechanisms governing the placement of data centres, particularly near residential areas.
Ramanan, who is also the human resources minister, submitted an official objection letter to the MBPJ mayor on July 15 to express his opposition to the proposed development.
However, as of press time, he had yet to receive an official response from the council.
