SHAH ALAM, July 27 — The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) is in the final stages of preparations to host several events for the 2026 Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA), which will be held from August 15 to August 24.
The Star reported that its president Ani Ahmad said the upgrading works at sports facilities and supporting infrastructure across six competition venues are progressing according to schedule to ensure all venues are ready before the Games begin.
"A total of six venues under the jurisdiction of MPSepang will host SUKMA 2026 competitions, covering men's football, athletics, pencak silat, archery, road cycling, and track cycling.
"We are focusing on upgrading sports facilities and supporting infrastructure, including playing fields; athletics tracks; lighting systems; pedestrian walkways; parking areas, and facilities for disabled persons,” she said.
Ani added that MPSepang is working closely with relevant agencies to develop a comprehensive traffic and transportation management plan.
The cooperation also includes the installation of directional signages to ensure the smooth movement of athletes, officials, and spectators throughout SUKMA.
She said hosting SUKMA 2026 is not only an opportunity to showcase sporting excellence but also to encourage young people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, discover new sporting talent, and instil discipline.
The biennial games are also expected to boost the local economy, particularly for the hotels, restaurants, transport service providers, and the tourism sector.
The 22nd edition of the Games will feature 469 medal events across 37 sports, with competitions taking place at 52 venues throughout nine districts in Selangor.
Meanwhile, the Para SUKMA Games will be held from September 5 to September 14, featuring 369 medal events across 10 sports: swimming, athletics, badminton, table tennis, tenpin bowling, lawn bowls, archery, chess, boccia, and powerlifting.
