SHAH ALAM, Oct 2 — The 2027 Selangor Budget should allocate sufficient funds to local authorities based on local needs to ensure effective implementation of public facility development and maintenance.

Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) President Ani Ahmad said targeted support from the state government, including infrastructure and drainage projects, strengthening local authorities' capacity, and community programmes, is important to bolster the local economy.

Economic and technological development also need to progress in tandem with public facility requirements so all segments of society can enjoy the benefits of development.

“One of the main challenges is ensuring that public facilities and road networks are able to meet the needs of a growing population in line with increasing development and population growth in the area.

“State government support in terms of funding, technical expertise, and coordination between agencies can help local authorities implement more comprehensive and sustainable solutions,” she told Media Selangor.

Sufficient allocations based on local needs can enable local authorities to plan maintenance work and project implementation more systematically and in line with their areas' priorities.

Ani added that every project implemented should be accompanied by transparent monitoring to ensure allocations are used effectively and to the residents' benefit.

Therefore, she hopes that the 2027 Selangor Budget will continue to focus on the people's well-being and balanced development, while strengthening cooperation between the state government and local authorities in addressing residents’ needs.

Previously, the state government allocated RM3.23 billion through the 2026 Selangor Budget, comprising RM1.86 billion for operating expenditure and RM1.37 billion for development expenditure.

When tabling the budget on November 14 last year, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari identified environmental sustainability and infrastructure excellence as two of his administration’s six commitments.

Similarly, the Local Authority Reform initiative continues, focusing on streamlining and shortening approval periods for several low-risk services, including residential renovation permits and hawker licences.
