RCI report on Tabung Haji to be released ‘soon’ — Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — The government is ready to release the final Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji (TH), said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said he would consult Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar on whether the report needs to first be referred to the Cabinet.

“If it is not necessary, I will release it today. If it is, I will wait until Wednesday because the people have the right to know,” he told reporters after launching the Humane Economy Global Discourse 2026 here today.

Anwar said the decision to release the report considers Tabung Haji’s progress in its recovery efforts, as well as the public’s right to know the findings of the inquiry.

He said the Cabinet previously decided to publish the report, but there were concerns at the time as TH was still in recovery.

“We have (TH chairman) Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain and a new team to carry out the necessary improvements based on the views and recommendations in the commission’s report. If we had done it too early, it could have caused concern among depositors and savers.

“Now, I believe TH has established itself with sound footing and I have no objections at all to publishing or making it public because the people have the right to know the contents of this report,” he said.

Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan said a decision on the proposal to disclose the final report would be discussed at the Cabinet meeting, following confusion and allegations regarding the sale of TH’s strategic assets by a former Treasury secretary-general.

Meanwhile, Anwar said Rashid and his team have done a “wonderful” job managing TH, turning it into a well-managed institution that is transparent and subject to proper auditing.
