SUBANG JAYA, Oct 13 — Construction of a covered pedestrian walkway linking the Puchong Prima Light Rail Transit (LRT) station and SMK Puchong Permai is expected to begin within the next one to two months.
State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said the project, planned by the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) in collaboration with the developer, will provide a more comfortable and safer route, particularly for students who use public transport to get to school.
“This is good news for residents, especially school students, as they will have a comfortable and safe pedestrian walkway,” he told Media Selangor.

Earlier today, Ng conducted a pedestrian walkway audit around Puchong Prima and Puchong Permai with MBSJ Zone 14 councillor Kamarul Hafiz Kamarudin and representatives from the local authority's Engineering and Planning Departments.
The audit found that pedestrian walkways in the area are generally in fairly good condition, although two to three locations still require improvements.
“Overall, the pedestrian walkways are in fairly good condition, but two or three locations need upgrading,” he said.
Ng added that, based on information from the developer, construction of the covered walkway would be subject to approval from the One-Stop Centre (OSC) and is expected to take about six months to complete.

Meanwhile, Kamarul said he hopes the project will set a benchmark for other areas in providing better-connected pedestrian facilities.
“We hope this project can serve as a benchmark for other areas to ensure pedestrian walkways are better connected and provide greater comfort for users across Selangor,” he said.
Pedestrian safety around SMK Puchong Permai has previously drawn attention amid concerns over accident risks and traffic conditions, particularly during school hours.
In March, MBSJ installed an artificial intelligence-based Smart Sensor Awareness (SENSA) system at the pedestrian crossing in front of the school as a pilot project to improve road safety.
The system can automatically detect pedestrians and activate real-time audio and visual warnings for motorists and pedestrians.
