SHAH ALAM, July 21 — The Selangor Orang Asli Cultural Festival next month will gather 74 indigenous village communities from all over the state on August 9 in Taman Tasik Milenium in Kuala Kubu Bharu, said state executive councillor for Orang Asli and minority affairs Papparaidu Veraman.
The festival is being held in conjunction with International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, which is celebrated on August 9 each year.
Papparaidu said preparations are being coordinated with the Selangor Orang Asli Development Department (JAKOA), Hulu Selangor District and Land Office, and other departments and agencies.
“This annual festival will gather communities from 74 Orang Asli villages in Selangor, comprising three main tribes which are Temuan, Semai and Mah Meri.
“This programme aims to uplift and preserve Orang Asli cultural traditions and strengthen unity, understanding and cooperation between Orang Asli communities and multiracial peoples,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Papparaidu added that coordination meetings will focus on event segments, safety, transport, cleanliness, health, promotions, and participation from all agencies involved, to ensure the festival goes smoothly and presents a meaningful impact to the people.
