SHAH ALAM, July 18 – The flood issue that has plagued residents of Taman Desa Seroja, Kajang for 30 years will end with the construction of a special reservoir to support the drainage system in the area.
Kajang State Assemblyman (ADUN) David Cheong said the proposed construction also received the cooperation of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Air Selangor to examine the main causes of water overflow before implementing the reservoir design plan.
“This is a positive development for the local community, as TNB has also expressed its readiness to take appropriate action immediately at the site.
“TNB’s active involvement has successfully resolved the main technical problem that previously caused efforts to upgrade the drainage system in the area to be delayed for three decades,” he said in a statement.
David said his party would closely monitor every development in the construction of the reservoir to ensure the project runs smoothly without any delays, thus benefiting the community.
Meanwhile, David informed that the approval process for road and development works in Cheras Idaman is not under the authority of the ADUN, but is instead subject to the local authority’s standard operating procedures (SOP).
He added that the role of elected representatives is to convey complaints and community voices to relevant agencies and monitor so that resolution actions can be implemented immediately in the interests of the residents.
“Every approval for upgrading works involving roads and development cannot be made arbitrarily; on the contrary; it must go through scrutiny and technical assessment by Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) officers in accordance with the SOPs, guidelines and regulations in force.
"Any application can only be approved after fulfilling all the conditions set by the relevant technical department.
"Therefore, the approval process is subject to the professional judgment of the authorised officer, not the decision of an individual or elected representative," he said.
