SHAH ALAM, July 18 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has claimed that certain political parties are sowing insecurity among the country's diverse communities as part of a broader strategy to take control of Selangor and eventually the federal government.
Speaking at a DAP fundraising dinner here last night, the Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PAKATAN) chairman said the approach centred on instilling fear across the country's multiracial communities rather than promoting unity.
"They are sowing insecurity within our communities–insecurity among the Malays, Chinese and Indians," he said, Free Malaysia Today reported.
Although he did not identify the parties involved, Amirudin said such political tactics posed a threat to the state's long-term stability and development.
The PKR vice president said Selangor's achievements today were the result of reforms carried out over the past 15 years, adding that preserving political stability was key to ensuring the state remained on its economic growth trajectory.
He also urged Malaysians to reject political narratives that exploit racial and religious differences for electoral gains.
"This is the time for Malaysians to rise. We must reject the extreme politics of race and religion being practised by certain parties," he added.
Pakatan Harapan retained the Selangor administration in the 2023 state election after winning 32 of the 56 state assembly seats, although it lost its two-thirds majority for the first time since taking power in 2008.
The next state election is due by November 2028, unless the state legislative assembly is dissolved earlier.
