SHAH ALAM, July 16 — A site for Petaling Jaya Hospital has been identified and will be proposed to and discussed with the Health Ministry, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the land will be acquired and that the state government is committed to facilitating the construction of Petaling Jaya Hospital.
“I chaired a discussion this morning on coordinating the proposed Petaling Jaya Hospital site with all agencies concerned.
“This is to refine further steps towards realising the construction of a public hospital highly anticipated by the Petaling people.
“God willing, with strong cooperation between the federal and state governments, the ambition to provide a Petaling Jaya Hospital for the benefit of millions of residents in this district will be fulfilled,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Amirudin said the important project is being executed thanks to close collaboration between the state government, Health Ministry (MOH), Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and others to ensure the people’s health needs are prioritised.
“(The new hospital will) increase access to quality health services, reduce congestion at existing hospitals, and meet the people’s long-term needs,” he said.
Also present at yesterday’s discussion were MOH representatives, state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin, Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato’ Mohamad Zahri Samingon, and representatives from other agencies.
On May 27, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad announced that a 6ha site in Taman Medan, which currently houses the X Park PJ South sports complex, would be proposed as a site for the new Petaling Jaya Hospital.
Amirudin previously said the 500-bed, vertical-concept hospital would meet the needs of the population in terms of accessibility, capacity, land cost, and its proximity to the local community.
