Joss paper factory in Rawang goes up in flames

SHAH ALAM, July 13 — A factory producing joss paper and other prayer items in Taman Industri Rawang was destroyed in a fire yesterday afternoon.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 1.01 pm.

He said 20 personnel from the Rawang Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by teams from the Batu Arang, Bukit Sentosa, Selayang and Damansara fire stations, were dispatched to the scene to carry out firefighting operations.

“The fire brigade arrived at the location at 1.07 pm and found that the blaze involved a prayer items factory housed in a Class B building measuring approximately 200 by 300 sq ft.

“An estimated 80 per cent of the building was affected by the fire, which was brought under control after 35 minutes of firefighting operations, preventing it from spreading to nearby areas,” he said in a statement yesterday.

According to Ashrul Riezal, firefighters also used water from two tanker trucks to ensure that the blaze was fully contained and safely extinguished.

He said no casualties were reported in the incident, while the cause of the fire and the estimated losses remain under investigation before further action is taken.
