SHAH ALAM, July 8 — The Selangor Literature and Content Expression Seminar (SLICE) is a long-term platform to foster greater international collaboration, said Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) director Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad.

She said the inaugural programme, held in conjunction with the 35th International Publishers Congress and facilitated by the Malaysian Book Publishers Association (MABOPA), marks the start of a broader effort to position Selangor as a literature and creative content hub.

“We want SLICE to be a strong platform where literature, creativity and innovation continue to connect industry experts with literature stakeholders,” she said in her welcome address at Pustaka Raja Tun Uda here today.

Among the highlights of SLICE were a forum on UNESCO recognition programmes for literacy development and a discussion on publishing industry challenges in the age of artificial intelligence.

Mastura said the participation of hundreds of delegates from around the world underscores the importance of bringing the global publishing community together in Malaysia.

She also highlighted PPAS’ role in making knowledge and reading accessible through its statewide library network.

“Together with the backing of His Royal Highness (Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj) and the state (government), we strive to make knowledge and reading accessible to communities throughout Selangor and beyond,” she added.

She also encouraged SLICE participants to continue building meaningful connections through literature and simple acts of kindness.

“Sometimes, the simplest gesture, a warm welcome, a sincere conversation, or simply taking the time to listen can make a very big difference. Kindness doesn’t cost us anything, yet it has the power to make people feel respected and valued.”

Mastura added that PPAS manages 105 public libraries across Selangor, including mobile and transit-friendly libraries, aimed at expanding public access to books and learning opportunities.
