AMPANG JAYA, July 6 — The first batch of Malaysian Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 volunteers have been chosen, with the Selangor Youth and Sports Department having released the list of 1,700 names.
SUKMA Selangor Secretariat chief executive officer Dato’ Mohd Yazid Sairi said selection is being done in stages to ensure volunteer posts throughout the tournament can be more systematically filled.
Speaking to the media after the SUKMA torch relay at the MPAJ Convention Centre here yesterday, he said the secretariat has received encouraging responses, with around 31,000 people applying to become SUKMA volunteers.
Also present was Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi.

“In terms of deciding whether an event will be dropped or maintained, we will wait for the SUKMA Supreme Committee meeting on July 15, which will be chaired by the youth and sports minister,” Yazid said.
On May 10, after a SUKMA Supreme Committee meeting, state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said synchronised swimming would be dropped from SUKMA as it didn’t fulfil the minimum participation criteria of six states.
Najwan said that with one less sport, the number of events for SUKMA has lessened to 469.
SUKMA will be held from August 15 to 24, while Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14.
