SHAH ALAM, July 6 — Yayasan Insan Istimewa Selangor (YANIS) has contributed RM15,000 to the Selangor State Education Department to support pupils who have yet to master basic reading, writing and arithmetic (3M) skills through the Programme for Screening and Identification of Pupils with Special Educational Needs (PROSPER).
YANIS chief executive officer Kamarul Hisham Yeop Hashim said the contribution will benefit 432 pupils across Selangor through the implementation of the screening programme.
He said YANIS had previously supported PROSPER, but the programme was not continued last year.
"This year, we were informed that the Ministry of Education allocated about RM2,000 for each district, and we understand that the amount is insufficient.
"So we are providing a total contribution of RM15,000 for all nine districts, benefiting 432 pupils," he told Media Selangor.
He hopes the contribution will help ease the financial burden on the Ministry of Education while ensuring pupils receive the basic education they deserve.
"We have been involved in this programme before and have provided considerable support, but last year the Ministry of Education did not continue the project. This year, it has resumed, although with a more limited budget.
"The ministry then wrote to YANIS, and we found the programme to be highly beneficial because it enables early screening. YANIS also regularly conducts screening programmes, making this a strategic collaboration between YANIS and the Selangor State Education Department," he said.
