AMPANG JAYA, July 6 — The 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and PARA SUKMA 2026 torch relay continued to build excitement for the biennial sporting event by drawing about 1,500 participants to Taman Melawati here last night.
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari said MPAJ was the seventh local authority to host the relay as preparations gather pace for the Games.
He said participants took part in a 4km run around Taman Melawati as a symbolic gesture to ignite the sporting spirit ahead of SUKMA 2026.
"Thanks to God, it is now MPAJ's turn to continue the SUKMA torch relay as the seventh stop after several local authorities completed their legs of the journey. Tonight, we chose Taman Melawati, a popular community gathering spot, as the venue.
"We received an encouraging response from 1,500 participants. Today, we received the torch from the Selayang Municipal Council before beginning the 4km run," he told reporters after flagging off the relay last night.

The flag-off ceremony was held in front of the MPAJ Convention Centre in Taman Melawati, which has also been selected as the venue for the SUKMA Selangor 2026 e-sports competition from August 19 to 24.
Also present were Selangor SUKMA Secretariat chief executive officer Dato' Mohd Yazid Sairi and Selangor State Sports Council executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi.
The SUKMA torch relay began at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam on May 10 before continuing to Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Selayang and Ampang Jaya.
The relay will continue to Kajang, Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya and Kuala Langat before concluding in Sepang on August 9.
SUKMA Selangor 2026 is scheduled to be held from August 15 to 24, while PARA SUKMA 2026 will take place from September 5 to 14.
