SHAH ALAM, July 1 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has expressed hope that the new LRT3 line may reduce traffic congestion, and that the facility gives Klang and Shah Alam residents working in Kuala Lumpur a faster, safer, and more comfortable commute.

His Royal Highness urged Prasarana Malaysia Bhd to maintain the tracks so the Shah Alam Line may operate smoothly.

“I do not want there to be anyone taking the opportunity to claim the LRT3’s successful execution was the result of their efforts alone,” the Sultan said in a statement today. “This project is the result of planning, commitment, and cooperation from various parties across several administrations for the benefit of Selangoreans as a whole.”

The Ruler also expressed hope that the LRT3 catalyses economic development, improves the people’s quality of life, and strengthens links between Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang as the pulse of national growth.

Sultan Sharafuddin thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who agreed for the project to continue by re-approving five stations that were previously axed.

His Royal Highness also praised Anwar for the prime minister’s recommendation to build affordable homes along the LRT3 route.

“(Anwar) also ordered that no more blocks need be entertained from any party with regards to this project. I say thank you and congratulations,” the Sultan said.

The Shah Alam LRT3 Line, with a RM16.63 billion investment value, is among the government’s strategies to strengthen the national public transport infrastructure.

Previously, Prasarana said the route is supplemented by 40 feeder buses plying 323 stops with 13 customised routes, with a fare of RM1 from 6am to 11.30pm daily.

On Sunday, Anwar announced a month of free rides on the LRT3 until July 31.
