SHAH ALAM, Nov 2 — The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) is looking to strengthen SA Sentral’s commercial appeal through a wider mix of businesses, better pedestrian access, and improved connectivity between its developments.

The RM3 billion initiative aims to establish the area as an active commercial destination beyond major events, with a focus on attracting sustained footfall from residents and visitors.

"To maintain visits by residents and visitors to Shah Alam's city centre, we are focusing on consistent activities, relevant business options, and an environment that is easy and comfortable to visit," the state statutory body told Media Selangor.

SA Sentral is a 10-year transit-oriented urban rejuvenation project initiative by PKNS in Shah Alam's city centre, scheduled to be implemented in phases until 2035, with the aim of revitalising the area to boost economic activity and attract more residents and visitors.

PKNS added that Aneka Walk, a canopied urban promenade expected to be fully operational in November and subject to the readiness of business premises and tenants, will serve as a hub for food and beverage outlets and community activities.

"Our focus is to provide a variety of food and beverage options, including brands that can attract visitors, as well as to organise regular programmes so that Aneka Walk remains active throughout the week," it said.

Aneka Walk, which opened to the public earlier this year, will feature 150 business lots catering to entrepreneurs in the food and beverage, fashion, crafts, and music industries, among others, and can accommodate up to 3,000 visitors at any one time.

Previously, PKNS signature project director Azilah Arasad said that Aneka Walk is not just a development project but a symbol of Shah Alam’s transformation into a more modern and inclusive city.

Meanwhile, it said Galeria SA Sentral will host arts and cultural programmes, while the upcoming Grand Mercure Shah Alam SA Sentral hotel and Regus coworking space are expected to broaden the area’s hospitality and business offerings.

The Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC), rebranded from the Shah Alam Convention Centre, will also serve as a hub for business meetings, trade and networking.

"The combination of these functions gives the public various reasons to come to the city centre, whether to work, attend events, stay overnight, or spend time with family," PKNS said.

It noted that improved lighting, signage, and pedestrian walkways, including connections to the Dato’ Menteri LRT station, will enhance accessibility across SA Sentral.

The broader SA Sentral development will involve new residential developments, commercial upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.

"Approximately 1,000 additional residential units are planned to increase the population living in the city centre.

“At the same time, road and lighting upgrades along Jalan Dato’ Menteri and Jalan Perbandaran will improve accessibility and provide a more comfortable environment for residents and visitors,” PKNS said.

The project is expected to create employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, boost the retail, food and beverage, hospitality and service sectors, and strengthen Shah Alam's position as a central business district (CBD).
