SERDANG, June 26 — Selangor is focusing on technology transfer, upskilling local small, medium enterprises (SMEs), and strengthening the aerospace supply chain to build a more resilient ecosystem and support long-term sector growth.
Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or (MBI), Aerospace and Aviation Special Unit head Zaniffa Azura Ahmad said efforts to attract aerospace players must go hand-in-hand with ensuring local companies benefit from industry growth via knowledge transfer and stronger participation.
“For the Selangor Aero Park project, what we want to do is we want to attract the companies, but we want them to transfer technology, meaning we have to upskill our SMEs and the supplier side… so we have to strengthen the supply chain to support the players.
“That will actually lead to a more resilient ecosystem, meaning the sustainability of the ecosystem in Selangor, that is the way to go,” she told reporters at the Selangor Aerospace Forum at MAEPS here today.
Zaniffa also said aerospace sector readiness is no longer limited to physical infrastructure, adding that digital capabilities, cybersecurity, system integration and specialised skills are becoming increasingly important as the industry evolves.
“Those are the things that we need to focus on right now, not just the physical infrastructure,” she said.
She added that Selangor aims to take an active role in emerging aerospace opportunities by working with regulators and industry partners to develop a supportive ecosystem.
Such a role also includes a sandbox environment to test and develop new technologies that could improve the state’s aerospace industry, Zaniffa said.
