LEMBAH BERINGIN, June 25 — A dedicated Automotive Valley in Hulu Selangor has been proposed for development as a central hub for vehicle manufacturing, research and development, training, and supply chain activities, anchored by Chinese automaker Chery’s investment in the district.

State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said the proposed development spanning Serendah and Rasa is part of the state government’s broader plan to build a complete automotive ecosystem to support the industry’s future growth.

The initiative will strengthen Selangor’s position in the automotive sector by integrating industrial activities and talent development within a single coordinated hub.

“The state government plans to develop a dedicated Automotive Valley across Serendah and Rasa, anchored by this very investment.

“Our ambition is not a single plant. It is a complete Automotive City, where car makers, component suppliers, research, and training sit side by side and where the supply chain is built and kept here in Selangor," he said in his speech during Chery’s topping-out ceremony today.

The Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park is being developed as a large-scale automotive manufacturing ecosystem in Hulu Selangor, bringing together vehicle production facilities and supporting industries.

The facility is expected to be completed in phases through 2029 and will serve as one of Chery's key operations in the region.

Ng added that Chery’s investment, worth more than RM2 billion, marks the first major step towards realising the vision, while creating new opportunities for residents and businesses in Hulu Selangor.

“For Hulu Selangor, this is significant. We are bringing advanced manufacturing skills, jobs, and real opportunities to a part of the state that has long deserved more.

“This is a balanced development. It spreads growth beyond the established industrial belt and into communities that will now sit at the heart of future-facing industries,” he said.

The councillor noted that Hulu Selangor is strategically positioned for such a development due to its proximity to existing automotive facilities and transport infrastructure.

“This is not a random patch of land. It sits on Malaysia’s automotive corridor, directly linked to the North-South Expressway and the gateway between Selangor and Perak.

“To our north lies Tanjung Malim and Proton City, and around us are the plants of Proton, Perodua, and other established carmakers. This is an automotive country; the roots, the talent, the suppliers, and the know-how are already here," Ng said.

Selangor remains committed to attracting high-value investments that create skilled jobs and long-term economic benefits for the state.

“We pursue high-value industries that bring technology, skills and good jobs, and that benefit our people directly," he said.
