LEMBAH BERINGIN, June 25 — The RM2 billion-plus investment by Chinese company Chery is expected to boost Hulu Selangor’s status as an automotive manufacturing hub while creating thousands of jobs, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park is being developed as a large-scale automotive manufacturing ecosystem in Lembah Beringin, Hulu Selangor, bringing together vehicle production facilities and supporting industries.
"Chery is expected to commence operations at the facility in the first quarter of next year, while subsequent phases are scheduled for completion in 2028 and 2029," he told the media after attending Chery’s topping-out ceremony today.
The event marked the completion of roof installation works for the first phase of the Smart Auto Industrial Park, which began construction seven months ago.
The development is expected to be completed in phases through 2029 and will serve as one of Chery's key operations in the region.
Amirudin added that the first phase of the facility is expected to create around 2,000 jobs, with the overall development generating approximately 5,000 direct employment opportunities upon completion.

"The actual number of jobs created could be significantly higher, as the development will also accommodate vendors and supporting industries operating within the complex.
“If we include all the vendors, I think more than 5,000 to 8,000, perhaps, there are job opportunities that will be created through the investment worth more than RM2 billion made by Chery,” he said.
The investment further strengthens Hulu Selangor’s standing as a vehicle manufacturing centre, which already hosts several automotive-related facilities, including Perodua operations in Sungai Choh and Serendah.
The Menteri Besar noted that the state government intends to leverage the investment to attract additional automotive manufacturers to the area.
“We will try to see what other support should be provided by the government so that Hulu Selangor can grow into an Automotive City and become a vehicle development centre for domestic and international markets,” Amirudin said.
