SHAH ALAM, June 25 — The Education Ministry (MOE) has appointed 8,042 new teachers as of June 10, while 5,845 graduates of the Bachelor’s in Teaching programme (PISMP) are set to be placed in schools nationwide in August.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said teacher recruitment is being done in stages among Teacher Training Institute (IPG) and public, private and foreign university graduates, based on projections, vacancies, and subject requirements in schools.

She said graduates who fulfil the job criteria would be offered a placement by the Education Services Commission (SPP) as the appointing authority.

“MOE will also receive 5,845 PISMP students who graduate in June and are to be placed in schools in August,” she added in a written reply published on the Parliament website today.

Fadhlina was responding to a query by Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) about education graduates who haven’t gained permanent placements, reasons for the delays, and MOE’s plan to solve the issue.

She said that among MOE’s solutions is a biannual teacher intake, which allow education graduates to gain placements more quickly upon graduation.

Graduates who have obtained senate results can submit their applications on the mySPP portal, which is open year-round, she explained.

Fadhlina added that MOE will keep improving teacher placement processes by working closely with SPP and central agencies to address the lack of teachers in schools nationwide.
