SHAH ALAM, June 19 — The state government has unveiled the Kita Selangor Education Scholarship to support outstanding students pursuing careers in high-impact fields such as electronics and electrical, life sciences, artificial intelligence (AI), engineering and automation, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
“The recent crises have highlighted the importance of education in enhancing opportunities and building resilience among individuals in facing challenges and economic uncertainties.
“The state government does not want Selangor children, especially those with potential and determination to pursue higher education, to be hindered by financial constraints.
“Therefore, the state is establishing the Kita Selangor Education Scholarship for outstanding students who have an interest in fields that are of importance to the state,” he said when tabling the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package (SREP) Phase 2 at a special sitting of the State Legislative Assembly today.
He added that RM17 million will be allocated for the initiative.
SREP Phase 2 involves an allocation of RM209.26 million to cushion the state from the impact of global economic uncertainties, bringing the total SREP allocation to RM355.06 million.
Separately, Amirudin said the state government will provide Google AI certification courses to 500 teachers in Selangor.
“Professional industry certifications will be offered to 500 individuals, while another 1,000 people will receive the Malaysian Skills Certification.”
He said these efforts fall under the Teraju Smart Selangor Technical and Professional Skills Initiative (Teraju IKTISASS) initiative, with a RM20 million allocation, aimed at producing more professionals in Selangor in line with key industries’ needs.
