SHAH ALAM, June 19 — The Selangor Food Warehouse (GMS) will compile buffer stock for five staples by December with the RM50 million allocation under Phase 1 of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package (SREP), said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He added that to date, GMS has 3,750 metric tonnes of buffer stock, enough to meet 7.93 per cent of the monthly needs of 30 per cent of Selangoreans.

“With the aim to add 3,500 metric tonnes of rice through the Selangor Food Warehouse, the rice buffer stock can be increased to 15.34 per cent of the monthly needs of 30 per cent of Selangoreans.

“The Selangor Food Warehouse is set to provide buffer stocks with the procurement of 1,000 metric tonnes of chicken, 100 metric tonnes of beef, 800 metric tonnes of fish and 150 metric tonnes of cooking oil by December 2026,” Amirudin explained while tabling SREP Phase 2 during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

He said the state government has allocated RM10 million for Ehsan Rahmah Sales (JER) in 779 locations to benefit 3.1 million Selangoreans.

“JER is held twice a month in each of the 56 state constituencies … which started in May and will continue until December 2026.

“JER as a programme has become synonymous with the state government’s aim to help the truly needy without affecting retail traders’ income in the state,” Amirudin explained.

SREP was launched as a response to the energy and supply crises stemming from the West Asia conflict.

Under the package, the Selangor government has pursued several interventions to help the people and the business sector amid cost pressures due to disrupted supply chains and uncertainties in global energy markets.
