KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 — Malaysia’s lawn bowls camp made history today by clinching a maiden women’s four title at the Australian Open in Gold Coast, Australia.
The Malaysian quartet, comprising former world champions Aleena Ahmad Nawawi and Emma Firyana Saroji, along with Nurul Alyani Jamil and Syafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman, defeated Victoria 19-13 to seal the title at the final in Broadbeach Bowls Club.
Speaking after the final, Emma said she is proud of her teammates for their success.
“Despite the ups and downs that we went through, we did fantastic and had an amazing game today. I’m really thankful for this,” she said on Bowls Australia’s Youtube channel.
Today’s feat marks Malaysia’s first title in the Australian Open since 2007, when Siti Zalina Ahmad was named women’s singles champion.
