KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 — Malaysia’s world champion mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei are just a step away from their second title this year after booking an Australian Open final slot in Sydney today.
During the semi-finals of the Super 500 tournament in Quaycentre, Olympic Boulevard, the top-seeded pair took 50 minutes to beat Thailand’s Pakkapon Teeraratsakul-Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-16, 21-14.
In tomorrow’s final, the world No.4 will meet either second seeds Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu of Indonesia or third seeds Ruttanapak Oupthong-Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat of Thailand.
Professional men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani’s bid to enter their third final of the year was thwarted when they suffered a shocking loss to unseeded Indonesian duo Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin.
The second seeds went down 15-21, 15-21 in 42 minutes in their first-ever meeting against Raymond-Nikolaus.
The current world No.4 pair have won only the India Open in January, emerging Japan Open runners-up in July.
