KUALA LANGAT, June 14 — A wide range of environmentally focused activities held in conjunction with the Selangor World Water Day and Low Carbon Day celebrations at Pantai Kelanang yesterday helped raise public awareness of the importance of environmental sustainability.

Housewife Jessie Liew, 47, said she travelled from Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, with her family to participate in various activities, including the Eco Urban Picnic, which challenged participants to creatively decorate tents using recycled materials.

“Since this morning, there have been many activities such as plogging around the beach area, colouring competitions for children and various games. We also took part in the tent decoration competition using recycled items.

“My children were involved in many of the activities as well, which helps instil environmental awareness and eco-friendly habits from a young age,” she said.

Meanwhile, Nurul Akhmar Md Aris, 43, said programmes of this nature successfully bring together people from all walks of life through the activities provided.

Having participated in the tug-of-war competition, she said the event not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also fosters greater awareness of environmental conservation.

“Programmes like this bring together people of all ages to take part in a variety of activities, including sports and community-based events.

“It also helps raise awareness among the public about the importance of protecting the environment,” Nurul said.

For Alif Raihan Zamri, 10, one of the main attractions of the event was the petting zoo, which allowed him to interact closely with and handle his favourite animal, snakes.

The experience provided an opportunity to learn more about different species of snakes and other animals.

“I was excited about the petting zoo because I could hold my favourite animal, snakes. I learned more about different types of snakes and other animals.

“Here, we can interact with these animals free of charge. I hope activities like this will be organised again,” he said.

In conjunction with the Selangor-level World Water Day 2026 and Low Carbon Day celebrations at Pantai Kelanang, a variety of community-centred activities were organised, including colouring competitions, a Trash to Cash programme, a recycling innovation competition, and sales booths.
