SHAH ALAM, June 11 — The Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) has ramped up enforcement against illegal farms, with the latest raid being on an unauthorised chicken farm in Jeram after the operator failed to comply with orders to cease operations and vacate the premises.
MPKS said the operation was conducted on June 3 at Lot 1514, Jalan Batu Bata off Jalan Raja Abdullah, involving 46 personnel from the council, Kuala Selangor district police, Kuala Selangor District and Land Office, Kuala Selangor Veterinary Services Department, National Water Services Commission (SPAN), Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, and Tenaga Nasional Bhd.
“Inspections revealed that the company had already removed and emptied chicken livestock from the premises. As many as five blocks of the poultry farm have been cleaned while three blocks are still in the process of being cleaned,” the council said in a Facebook post on June 4.
It added that compounds were issued to the operator for conducting business without a licence, failure to maintain cleanliness and releasing effluent into a nearby body of water.
Eleven water pumps and a forklift were seized, while electricity and water supply to the farm were disconnected, MPKS said.
“MPKS wishes to assert that any business, industrial or farming activity conducted without valid approval and permissions is an offence and can be subject to enforcement actions. MPKS will not (negotiate with) any party that fails to comply with the prescribed laws, licence requirements and rules,” it said.
The council added that it would keep up enforcement efforts to ensure compliance and preserve environmental sustainability.
