SHAH ALAM, Sept 2 — The 15.45km East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) track in Kuala Selangor, which is now 83 per cent done, is set to boost transport networks and economic growth in the district, said the local authority.
The Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) said Section 9 of the alignment involves infrastructure components including bridges, overpasses, tunnels and stations.
“The ECRL, especially in Kuala Selangor, could strengthen logistic connectivity and transport access, besides stimulating economic activity and creating new development opportunities in the area.
“With a better rail alignment, the project is set to add value to Kuala Selangor in terms of mobility, logistics, and economy, supporting the district’s future growth potential,” it said in a Facebook post today.
It added that an MPKS delegation, led by president Mohamad Hanafe Basri, conducted a site visit to the local ECRL construction site on August 28.
MPKS said the visit allowed the delegation a closer look at the progress of the project and strengthened coordination with concerned quarters to ensure the infrastructure megaproject is well conducted.
“Overall, the ECRL alignment in Selangor is 90.72km and includes strategic links to ports like Northport and Westports,” it added.
Previously, state executive councillor for investment, transport and mobility Ng Sze Han said more than 40 contracting firms registered in Selangor have obtained tenders valued at RM3.58 billion related to the ECRL project in four states.
From that amount, around RM1.18 billion involves the ECRL alignment in Selangor, which is evidence that such an infrastructure megaproject provides spillover benefits to local industries and companies.
