SHAH ALAM, June 10 — The Hulu Langat District and Land Office will demolish the multi-storey residential building in Kampung Baru Sungai Makau, Ulu Langat Mukim, which recently went viral on social media.

District Officer Datuk Mohd Jusni Hashim said that a series of warning notices for illegal occupation were issued to the building's owners over the past several years.

"Per Section 425 of the National Land Code, the notices were issued in 2017, 2020, 2021, and most recently on March 13, 2025. The multi-storey residential structure is located largely on privately owned land under Title HSM 5345 PT 3940 (Express Condition of Land: Residential Use), with a small portion encroaching onto a road reserve.

"Several residential structures have also been erected illegally on this lot and on an adjacent river reserve lot, and were previously occupied by members of the Rohingya community," he said in a statement tonight.

A demolition operation was also carried out in 2017 as part of an integrated enforcement exercise involving the Office, the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS), the Royal Malaysia Police, the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), the Public Works Department, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, and the Irrigation and Drainage Department.

"Similarly, MPKj issued notices and compound offers under offences prescribed by Section 70(1), together with directives under Sections 72(1)(b) and 72(1)(c) of the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974 in 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2021 for the construction of buildings without obtaining written approval from the local authority.

"Meanwhile, LUAS opened an investigation paper in 2025 under Sections 43(4) and 70(3) of the LUAS Enactment 1999, with a view to recommending compound action against parties responsible for erecting structures without authorisation. Upon conviction, offenders may be fined up to RM50,000, imprisoned for a term not exceeding two years, or both," Jusni said.

He added that the Selangor division of the Immigration Department participated in a joint operation with the police (Ops Kutip) conducted by the Kajang district police headquarters on February 28 last year.

"During the operation, 42 foreign nationals were detained and arrested on reasonable suspicion of committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

"The Office, together with all district enforcement agencies, remains fully committed to taking enforcement action against encroachment on government land in accordance with the rule of law and applicable legislation," Jusni said.
