SINGAPURA, June 10 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari yesterday held a meeting with Singaporean Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan here.
Amirudin said they covered various matters during the two-hour meeting, including Malaysia-Singapore relations and efforts to address regional and border-related issues that often arise as challenges in Southeast Asia.
“We discussed many issues including Malaysia’s future, and Vivian also shared his experience managing raw and drinking water sources and flood problems in this country.
“I see that Malaysia and Singapore have specific roles in keeping up regional peace. Both (must) remain competitive places for the development of the global and regional economy,” he added.
Amirudin is on his final day of a three-day official visit to Singapore under the SR Nathan Fellowship, a high-level programme named after former republic president S.R. Nathan, which promotes idea exchanges and experience sharing between foreign officials and their Singaporean counterparts across various strategic sectors.
The menteri besar also spent about an hour touring the Albatross File Exhibition at the National Library Board here, which depicts the separation of Singapore from Malaysia based on perspectives of the republic’s leaders.
“There were some perspectives that were interesting to watch… The way both (sides’) efforts made the separation orderly even though behind (the scenes they had their own) histories and backgrounds.
“The history was shown systematically and shown quite well. Important documents about the separation in 1965 shown to the public (were contained) in the Albatross file,” he added.
Earlier, Amirudin visited ITE College West to observe the administration of the institution, especially in the automotive and hospitality fields.
Also present were state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han; Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or MBI, chief executive officer Dato’ Saipolyazan M. Yusop; and Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) executive director Hafizzal Hamid.
