MPHS joins forces with SWCorp in war against dengue

SHAH ALAM, June 9 — The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) held a community cleanup on Jalan Anggerik 3A and 3B in Bukit Sentosa 2 on Sunday amid an increase in dengue cases in the area.

MPHS Zone 18 Councillor Mohamad Faridul Amini said the initiative was held in cooperation with the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp).

During the programme, SWCorp environmental health officer Muhamad Ismail Gulam Rasul provided a briefing on operational workflow about more proactive moves under the MPHS Zero Aedes Community Programme (KOZEDES).

MPHS also handed out BIMOBET mosquito breeding traps at the programme launch in Bukit Sentosa 2 to address the outbreak.

The council, in a Facebook post today, said this marks the commencement of comprehensive community cleanups to destroy Aedes mosquito breeding sites in the neighbourhood.

It also distributed leaflets on dengue and handed out mosquito larvicide (abate) to ensure every household can prevent dengue.

“This initiative not only focuses on dengue prevention, but aligns with the (United Nations) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG3 (Health and Well-being) and SDG11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

“With active involvement, the aspiration to achieve a zero-Aedes community can be realised, thereby translating the spirit of ‘Empower the Community, Fight Aedes’ into tangible action,” it said.

Faridul expressed hope that this activity would foster a culture of cleanliness among citizens, adding that solid support from each segment of society is key to ensuring residential areas are dengue-free.

MPHS also said that with continuous collaboration between local authorities and communities, this proactive preventive move can significantly lower the dengue caseload and ensure better quality of life for residents.
